Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status is designed to protect immigrant children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned by one or both parents. SIJ status provides a path to a green card for vulnerable children already in the U.S., giving them a chance to build a stable future. To apply, a state court must first determine that it's not in the child’s best interest to return to their home country.
